German Project 2010: The Great Kitchen War (read description first)
Aug 31st, 2010 by admin

All was peaceful in my kitchen. At least, until I had a friend over. She decided to get some ice cream and put it in a cup (that’s how awesome she is :D )… bad idea. And thus, the Ice Cream Monster was born!!! My friend’s accursed Ice Cream took over the peaceful spoon village and terrorized the wimpy straw colony!!! He aimed for the fork and knife town next, but most resisted. The forks went to the great Tong King for help, and the training began. families were torn apart and rigorous training sessions were held. There were many fights, and many were lost. In the end, the only way to defeat the Ice Cream monster was to pour hot water ALL OVER HIM. He melted of course. But my friend… Let’s just say she learned a valuable lesson about putting Ice Cream in a cup.

Dinner Recipes Can Be Easy If You Know the Secrets
Aug 24th, 2010 by admin

It’s true – it’s a fast paced world and it seems that people are busier today than ever before in history. People add more and more things to do, which compensates for the speed modern technology brings to tasks. This then leads to personal lives that are sometimes left in the lurch. Many types of chores get neglected as well as other things. Unfortunately, that includes fixing meals as well. I guess that’s exactly why people are always on the look out for ways to make dinner recipes quick and easy. It’s nice to know there are a lot of ideas around for quick meals.

Forty years ago people cooked a lot more from scratch – hand cooking was the norm. Sausage wasn’t purchased, it was ground into casings from scratch. Simple meals like spaghetti involved slaving over a noodle press and cooking sauce from scratch for hours. Meal preparation often took a whole day. With far fewer women in the work force at that time that was often the norm.

It wasn’t until much later that pre-packaged and ready made foods appeared in homes. Instant cake mixes became more common for example. The old days of cake baking, slowly changed from mixing ingredients such as vanilla, flour, eggs, milk, carefully melted chocolate and many many other ingredients into simply opening a box and mixing in some eggs and milk. Baking a cake today is much, much easier than it used to be. In the old days it could easily take half a day or more to properly bake and frost a cake. Change has truly happened.

These days there are loads of places to learn how to cook meals better and more quickly. Many sources are now available to tell people how to make quicker meals. The television cooking shows are more popular than ever. Things were much tougher during the times when Julia Child talked about fancy French cooking as the Galloping Gourmet hit the sauce every day. Today’s cooking shows focus on easy every day meals for, and to be prepared by, every day people. There are lots of techniques available for combining fresh foods with pre-packaged elements. The cooking shows today deliver quick cooking meals that look a lot more complex but are still easy enough for the general public to complete.

Another nice thing is that pre-packaged and ready made foods aren’t as bland as they used to be either. Most current supermarkets now have deli’s where hot meals are made. It’s almost like buying a restaurant meal while shopping at the store, then bringing it home to eat. Another plus is that many of these foods can be refrigerated or frozen to eat another day. That’s another meal idea coming into favor right now too. Many people have found that it’s often easier to prepare all your meals for the week sometime during the weekend, then freeze them for reheating later during the week. And a good thing is that many foods don’t suffer from being frozen and reheated.

Busy people everywhere can eat well in the modern world without spending a lot of money eating out every day. It is possible. There are plenty of places to learn about making dinner recipes easy. Go ahead, find good tips about making great dinner recipes everywhere you look. Bon appetite.

The History of Boker Knives
Aug 22nd, 2010 by admin

Today, Boker is one of the best-known names in the knife world. The roots of the Boker company stretch back nearly 200 years. In 1829, two brothers in Germany began manufacturing sabers. From this early date, the company symbol was modeled after the chestnut tree towering over their small factory. Today, this symbol still adorns each knife created in the Boker factory.

As the company grew, the brothers decided that it was time to expand operations. Hermann Boker moved to New York, while Robert moved to Mexico. Meanwhile, Heinrich moved to Solingen. This town was then known as the center of the German cutlery industry. The company that is now known as Boker was officially founded in 1869. Today, Boker knives are still made in the town of Solingen.

For more than a century, the Boker name has been associated with top quality kitchen cutlery and some of the best knives in the world. With innovative designs and impeccable precision, Boker uses the highest grade materials available to craft sought-after knives. Boker blades are typically made from carbon, tool, surgical, or stainless steel. These may be a single layer of steel or as many as three hundred separate layers. Layered blades are more flexible, while single-sheet blades are stronger and more durable. Some Boker knives feature forged titanium blades in place of steel. The specially designed handle may be made from wood, stag horn, mother of pearl, or a variety of modern synthetic materials.

With uncompromising quality since the beginning, Boker now offers a full line of knives, including pocket knives, fixed blade styles, and kitchen cutlery. Today, Boker knives range from fixed blade throwing knives fit for competition, to beautiful and intricately design collectors’ knives, to top quality kitchen cutlery. Those who favor Boker know that they won’t have to compromise aesthetics or style to get a top quality and durable knife that feels tailor-made to fit their needs.

Throughout its lengthy history, Boker has been recognized for continuing innovation in the knife world. The Boker name is particularly well known for reliable utility knives that withstand the harsh demands of any environment. These knives are favored by military and law enforcement officers as well as civilians. Boker knives are found not only in the wilderness, but also back at home. Boker kitchen cutlery maintains its razor sharp edge even with a high level of use.

Many collectors even seek out Boker knives because of their designs. Intricate details on blades and handles ensure that you won’t have to compromise quality for beauty. To keep your Boker knives beautiful, whether on display or being used daily in the kitchen or outdoors, always store them properly. Many Boker knives come with a specially-designed sheath or knife block for this purpose. When your knife needs sharpening, as all knives inevitably will, trust Boker sharpening stones and steels to keep your knives looking beautiful and working great.

Today, Boker offers a complete line of knives and knife accessories. You’ll find the finest fixed-blade knives, kitchen cutlery, and even straight razors from Boker, with materials ranging from fine Damascus steel to modern ceramics and synthetics. Boker remains sought after, as it has for nearly two centuries, as a top quality name in the knife world.
